Baptist churches have lots in common with other Christian denominations, but have two key characteristics which sets us apart. Firstly, we do not baptise or christen infants. We practice "believers baptism", for those who accept Jesus as Lord. This involves the individual stepping into the baptismal pool and upon their acceptance of Jesus as Lord be fully immersed and exit the other side. However, we do recognise the gift of a new child with a special dedication service. Secondly, each Baptist church is self-governed. This means the leadership team make many of the day-to-day decisions, and the church members make any larger decisions at the quarterly church meetings. [Back]
