Annual Lunch
The ladies of Focus enjoyed their annual lunch. We had a delicious meal cooked by a team led by Fred Biggs and served by some husbands disguised as waiters. We had a short devotional spot lead by Rev Vikki Bunce, and later completed a fun quiz. After coffee and mints served in the youth lounge we found bargains in on the "Bring and Buy" stall, raising funds for charity.

Focus Summer Party

f1The Summer Party used to be held in a garden but we had been rained off so many times that we now hold it in the church hall.  It rained on Thursday and we were so glad to be undercover.

It was a Bring and Share party and needed three tables to accommodate the wide variety of savoury goodies brought by the ladies.  Our second course was a choice of fruit salad, strawberries, chocolate roulade or American Cheesecake, all liberally spread with fresh cream, followed by the obligatory tea or coffee.

We had a Bric-a-Brac stall and raised money for Hope4Havering our charity for this year.f2
During the party there was a lot of laughter, the conversation was sparking and the company excellent. Many thanks to the ladies who helped set up, to those who helped to take things down, and those who helped in the kitchen.  It could never have been such a good time without their valuable assistance.
If you are a lady who is home on a Thursday morning, we meet every other Thursday in term-time, from 9.30 to 11.00am, come and make some new friends. We enjoy a cup of tea or coffee first and then at about 10.00 hear the speaker of the day, a different subject each week. So if you would like to come and give us a try, you would be made very welcome, do come along.

Glynis Brown and the Committee

f3Focus is for ladies of any age, and all are welcome. We meet every other Thursday morning from 9.30 to 11.00 am in the front foyer of the church. Our morning starts with tea/coffee and a good old natter with friends old and new.

This is followed by a varied programme of speakers to entertain and inform us (sometimes both). Our speakers have included Councillor Pam Light who’s entertaining talk entitled” 50+ you are only a teenager with dodgy knees”, had us in stitches; we held a successful Macmillan Coffee Morning, met with Hope 4 Havering, a work among the homeless of Havering,  enjoyed an informative talk from Guide dogs for the blind meeting two lovely working dogs, we heard about Warley Place and the Victorian Lady who owned the house, we were updated about the work of the charity Railway Children. Then finally for this year had our Christmas Celebration, (said to be the best yet!) with mulled “wine” and mince pies followed by a Christmas skit from two visiting angels, a quiz, a Reindeer Drive (you had to be there!) a sing along with actions, and of course some Christmas Carols. I think you will agree, it was a varied programme.

So come and join us for friendship and fun at Focus, all are welcome

In the summer the ladies of Focus went on A Cruise!!
One beautiful afternoon we took a boat and cruised along the waterways that thread their way through the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.  We passed by the Olympic Stadium, now the new home of West Ham F.C., The Arcelormittal Orbit, the Aquatics Centre, and the Copper box Arena to name just a few of the sights. We were given an enjoyable commentary by the well informed guide on the boat  who told us how these waterways have been rescued from being a toxic rubbish dump to a waterway full of wildlife. All that and a good laugh too.
